Yaluwa : Events Update 1

Jersey : 29 May, 2005.

Yaluwa – Friends Of Sri-Lanka : Site launch and lottery draw.

The Yaluwa Launch Team From Left : Geordie, Tanya, Steve, Nadine, Sandra, Daz, Bella, Angie, Lee & Chad.

On Sunday 29th May, members and friends of the Yaluwa – Friends Of Sri-Lanka – organization gathered down at the Watersplash for our 1st fund raising event.
The idea was simple, we sell 500 lottery tickets and build a web site to document and publish our progress…….in about 14 days. We set out with great determination and managed to accomplish both these tasks and raise a staggering £2700.
We were fortunate to get such a positive response from all those involved, who are listed on our front page, and the whole project cost us just a few pounds.

We turned up with a few hours left before the draw and had 90 tickets still left to sell. Unfortunately the sun didn’t have his hat on so the usual crowds that gather there on a Sunday were not to be seen.
We eventually managed to sell a further 60 tickets, for which we have Dom Boletta, of the Jersey Surfboard Club, to thank for his encouraging words at the surf competition which was being held further down the beach.

Later than expected we eventually drew the names from the hat are the lucky winners were:

1st Prize £1000 : Ian Treacy – Ticket Number 118

2nd Prize £500 : Jonny and Co. – Ticket Number 260

3rd Prize £250 : Heidi Dallimore – Ticket Number 327

4th  Prize £200 : John - Ticket Number 341

5th Prize £100 : Corey Littlefield – Ticket Number 96

Corey Littlefield receiving his prize from Lee.

Johnny & Co celebrate their win.

Many thanks to all those involved that day and for those of you who purchased tickets and helped us get this campaign off to a flying start.
The following morning Lee and Daz headed off to Sri-Lanka with the money raised, their progress can be tracked in our Diary pages where interviews and media content can also be found.

See you at the next Yaluwa gathering.
